April 10, 2019 - The Mira Costa library closed on August 16, 2018 due to unauthorized work performed by a contractor. While we finished all of the abatement and repair work related to that incident in January, we are still engaged in additional work that is keeping the library closed. Part of that is because we voluntarily decided to do additional abatement projects that will make the library more usable in the future, and part of it is because we found yet one more issue as we were inspecting the facility. A team of contractors and consultants is currently working to complete these tasks, with monitoring by AQMD as necessary. Once this work is done, the District will complete any repairs that are required as a result of abatement process and then will conduct a final “housekeeping” cleaning of the entire facility. At that point, the library will be ready to be re-opened for regular use. We are hopeful that we can move back into the library at the beginning of May.
