For the second year in a row, Mira Costa High School’s Drama Department has won the Sweepstakes Award at the Fullerton College High School Theatre Festival. Approximately 60 Southern California high schools participated. The top award is presented to the school with the most overall points. In addition, Mira Costa took top honors in Musical Theater — which featured 49 entries — with a first-place win for a 10-minute scene from “Peter Pan,” their upcoming spring musical. Peter Pan opens April 25.
“Cabaret,” a 10-minute scene produced and directed entirely by students, took third place in the Musical Theater category. Costa also placed first in Contemporary Humorous/Dramatic Ensemble with “The Crucible.” Alex Jarus won second place in Graphic Design for his poster design for “The Crucible.” Costa’s Theater Tech students brought home three medals in “Tech Olympics”: first place in Prop Quick Change, first place for Anastasia Pineschi in Individual Knot Tying (tying five knots in 28 seconds) and second place in Lighting Focus. Costa’s Team Luis and Clark took third place in Improv Games.
